A set of National Principles for the resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities as well as the Australian Institute of Sport's (AIS) Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment will guide a staged resumption of sport and recreation in Australia. For softball specifically, the guidelines provide the following advice regarding how the reintroduction through the Levels will be staged. To be clear, Level A remains in place. As information is provided from the relevant Government and Sporting authorities regarding any change to the levels of participation the BSA Board of Management will review and update our members.
In line with previous advice, BSA Board of Management have undertaken a further review of our events and the following is advised:
- BSA Representative Training and Selections are on hold until further notice - Team Managers/Coaches will be communicating with players regarding isolation training activities
- Winter Season is postponed - Start date will be reviewed when Level C is released
- Club Classic - CANCELLED - refer below
- 21 & Under Club Challenge - To be determined by first week of June
The decision to cancel the 2020 Club Classic Tournament has been made after careful consideration of a number of factors, including the current Level A sport restriction and the Queensland Government social distancing and border restrictions remaining in place. We appreciate this is disappointing but given the current situation we feel this is the appropriate decision at this time. The Club Classic Tournament will return in 2021 and we look forward to clubs showcasing their teams at next year's event.
We appreciate everyone is keen to get back on the diamond and get competitions underway, but as an Association, the health and safety of our members and broader community is paramount, and we will continue to be guided by the advice from Government Health Authorities, Softball Australia and Softball Qld in our decision making processes regarding resumption of softball activities and programs.
