A1 players Jess Torpey and Carmie Sorensen were recently representing Australia in the Canada Cup and World Cup. The girls had a great tournament, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. A very special tournament for Torpey as she made her debut for the Aussie Spirit and had a fantastic tournament on debut. Hopefully one of many tournament for our long time player Jess Torpey. Well done Jess and Carmie! We are so proud.

The U23 Nationals were held in QLD over a week in July. Bears players Becky McDonnell and Stephanie Curtis were amongst this team as well as A1 Coach Kevin Jenkins contributing as Head Coach. The girls played a great week of softball going undefeated in the rounds, but unfortunately dropping their only game of the tournament in the Grand Final 4-2 against NSW. Stephanie Curtis was a star in this final by scoring the run that tied the game and took it to a tie breaker before NSW scored 2 to win the game. Steph was included in the all tournament team as the 3rd Base. Well done Steph, a great achievement!

As we welcomed in 2017 a number of our players started the year by representing QLD at their respected nationals. Bec C, Jess, Bec M, Chelsea, Carmie and Janice were our A1 representative in the QLD Heat Team as they attempted to defend their Gilley's Shield title in Sydney. Unfortunately it wasn't to be for the team going down in the final against NSW. Our A1 players shined through the whole tournament with a number of the girls earning selection in the Australian teams. Also in Sydney was our A1 Coach Matt Torpey, he was assisting the U17 girls in their nationals campaign. Erin Blackmore just finished playing U19 Nationals in Perth where she came home with 3rd place. What a talented bunch of players and officials we have here at Bears. Another example of just how good we are! Well done to all involved, we're all so proud!

While the Australian team was fighting it out for a World Championship in Surrey last week, the QLD Women's U23 team battled the weather and the rest of Australia to bring home the Joyce Lester Shield. Bears A1 Coach, Kevin Jenkins, led the QLD girls to a 7-2 victory over NSW in the grand final. Also in the team were Bears A1 players Becky McDonnell and Stephanie Curtis (pictured below). The team had some great results during the week, but none better than the victory over NSW in the grand final to bring the shield home to QLD. Becky McDonnell won the 'Best Batter' award and was named in the 'All Tournament Team' as the Designated Player. Well done Kevin, Steph and Becky!
